金門氣象站表示，今天凌晨二時五十七分，瞬間陣風達到每秒六一?七公尺，超過十七級，創下金門氣象站二○○四年設站以來的新紀錄；三時四分時平均風速也達到十四級。凌晨二時左右，金門進入莫蘭蒂暴風圈，全島陷入狂風暴雨中，許多民眾在睡夢中被吵醒；由於風勢過猛，民眾住家搖晃不已，彷彿地震，好多人難以入睡。
民眾在半睡半夢中，聽到鬼哭神號的風聲夾雜著鐵皮、招牌、雜物高速撞擊聲，加上汽車防盜器聲此起彼落，民眾擔心害怕到清晨。還有多處停水、停電，山外地區也傳出淹水災情。
風雨過後，民眾出門查看，看到路上到處是倒塌的路樹、撕裂的鐵皮、破碎的招牌和玻璃，滿目瘡痍。縣定古蹟清總兵署廣場的老榕樹倒塌，壓垮了部分古蹟；莒光湖畔的天后宮前的石牌也被吹垮，石塊掉落滿地，讓人看了怵目驚心。
縣府乘船處表示，由於路樹倒塌，公車難以通行，為顧及乘客安全，今天金門縣公車全天停駛，下午三時卅分大小金門交通船恢復部分航班。
